We just got back from a week in Vermont courtesy of our friends Thomas and Karen. They have a second home that they’ve let us use a few times. It’s a really nice spot, right on the lake complete with good fishing, canoes, kayaks, even a powerboat.
What it mostly has is tranquility. We really need tranquility right now. Especially me. Most of the week was spend in various idle pursuits such as fishing (me and the kids), reading and drinking Margerita’s (Beth), and falling out of Kayaks (me). We did take a hike and a couple of long canoe trips, but most of the time was spent pleasantly doing nothing, with the occaisional trip to the UDDER DELIGHT to get ice cream.
On the way towards Fairlee, we crossed the Ompompanoosuc River, which was immortalized in song by Little Richard (you know "Ompompanoosuc A Lomp Bam BOOM!").
Once we got to the house and unpacked, we trucked straight down to the dock and started fishing. I caught two bass right off the dock in the first twenty minutes. I didn’t catch another bass from the dock for the rest of the week.
We spotted a loon thirty feet or so from the dock, and spent fifteen minutes watching him fish.
The rest of the day would be too boring to write about, since we did nothing but sit around and adjust to the lakeside lifestyle.
